Integrative Dentistry – What is Integrative Dentistry?

There is a paradigm shift going on in health care today. More and more people are becoming aware of the fact that it is in their best interest to maintain health and prevent disease than to expect a broken health care system to fix them. Integrative Dentistry is the same way and it is for the very same reasons that it has come into its own.

Integrative Dentistry is a modern approach to oral health and wellness, which integrates oral health plus whole body health. The mouth is the gateway to health. It is the start of the digestive system. You cannot have overall health without health of the gut. You can’t have a healthy gut without good chewing of healthy food with your healthy teeth.

Integrative Dentistry combines alternative, holistic treatments with conventional procedures. Integrative dentists use modern technology such as ozone therapy, laser therapy, microscopes, minimally invasive dentistry, one visit ceramic crowns and low dose digital X-rays. They are part of the 1% of dentists in the United States that are mercury safe, meaning they do not utilize amalgam fillings which are up to 50% mercury and have advanced training in the safe removal and disposal of amalgam.

Smile Design & Wellness Center strives to provide quality dentistry while defining new standards of care. They provide comprehensive dental care to all patients through a very thorough examination and a video tour of your mouth. This is followed by a detailed oral diagnosis and treatment options for you to choose from. The patient decides on his or her own treatment. This is the beginning of each patient taking ownership and responsibility for their oral health.

We deal with the symptoms but discover the root of the problem. We work hand in hand with your own healthcare practitioners if necessary. We do not do patchwork or ‘crisis’ dentistry but strive to engage you in understanding the situation in your mouth and working with us to regain health. This inevitably becomes the most cost effective form of dental insurance.

We are not part of any dental insurance plan; we work for you, not the insurance company. After a thorough examination we want to work with you in deciding your, not the insurance company’s best treatment plan. Our office will work with your insurance plan to maximize your insurance benefits each year.

Our greatest success in dentistry is when a patient comes in and has the most thorough examination they have ever had and viewed the video tour of their mouth. They are then educated as to the situation at hand and a treatment plan is formulated. Once any treatment is completed, the patient with their improved knowledge base understands the health benefits of their food choices and the benefits of routine maintenance. Armed with knowledge of the impact a positive pH has in their mouths and the benefits of Xylitol, they are able to maintain health.

Next month we will discuss the new discoveries in the mouth/body connection.
