sometimes referred to as “bonding”, is the foundation of modern adhesive dentistry. It is the process that we use to adhere sealants, fillings and all ceramic dentistry to the tooth. This bonding is based upon resin chemistry. We choose materials that have the highest biocompatibility, strength and have excellent aesthetics. We also choose materials that are BPA free and have properties of low shrinkage. As important as the bonding material is the surface which is being bonded to, we prepare all of the surfaces we bond to with air abrasion, a technique which cleans the surface of the tooth and leaves a microscopic roughness for the optimal long-term adhesion bond. In teeth that have had decay we will also use Ozone to assure bacterial kill and decrease sensitivity.
Who would not want a stronger bond and a longer lasting restoration?
